● About

A better local Utah

The Wasatch Assembly was founded by En Canada who moved to Utah in 2021. They attended city council meetings for years to understand how local government could be weaponized against oppressive systems and help the material conditions of the community. Over that time, they achieved significant policy victories at Salt Lake City Council. Their knowledge and victories were the foundation for The Wasatch Assembly. Now, we are expanding their framework to cities across Utah.

We believe that local government is best vector for political transformation in our state.

Who We Are

What We Commit To

Our Principles

1
Democracy

We believe democracy is meaningless without the ability to depose the government.

2
Systems

We dismantle white supremacy, patriarchy, capitalism, and heteronormativity.

3
Conflict

We believe conflict is a necessary feature of democracy, not a failure of it.

4
Tangibility

We translate ideology into tangible policy goals.

5
Anti-Eurocentrism

We decenter European economic and political models in favor of culturally relevant Indigenous and Black American ones.

6
Catharsis

We transform our difficult feelings into concrete, actionable policy. We recognize this is not a space for emotional processing, but a space to harness our feelings to transform the present and the future.
