Hello, Salt Lake County Council. My name is XXX, and I am a resident of XXX.
I am here today because [briefly explain why ICE, immigrant rights, or this issue matters to you].
I want to recognize that Salt Lake County has joined the fight against the proposed SLC Detention Center. I appreciate the County taking a stand against the expansion of ICE infrastructure in our community.
But I believe we need to go further.
The Wasatch Assembly has developed a 2026 Municipal Policy Platform based on input from people across our community. We are asking Salt Lake County to adopt policies that protect residents from federal immigration enforcement and prevent County resources from being used to facilitate it.
My top priority policies of WAs agenda are:
[pick 3-4]
Reject 287(g) agreements and prohibit the use of County resources for federal immigration enforcement.
Provide free legal services for County residents whose constitutional rights are violated by federal immigration enforcement.
Require judicial warrants before County facilities, records, databases, or other County resources are accessed for federal immigration enforcement, except where access or disclosure is otherwise legally required.
Pass a resolution calling for the abolition of ICE.
Hold a public hearing on ICE and its impact on Salt Lake County residents.
Provide public education and partner with immigrant-rights organizations to inform residents of their legal protections.
Require County departments to publicly report their interactions with ICE and other federal immigration authorities, including requests for information, records, access, or assistance.
You were elected to represent the people who live here. We are here as those people, asking you to listen, respond, and act.
Thank you.
