Hello, Salt Lake City Council. My name is XXX, and I am a resident of XXX.

I am here today because [briefly explain why ICE and this issue matter to you personally or to your community]. Salt Lake City has already demonstrated that it can use its municipal authority to resist ICE expansion. I am asking you to build on that work.

The Wasatch Assembly has brought you a clear set of demands developed by people in our community.

I believe SLC has a responsibility to protect the people who live here.

ICE may be a federal agency, but the consequences of its actions are local. They affect our neighbors, our families, our workplaces, our schools, and our communities. Local government has choices about whether it helps ICE, ignores ICE, or actively protects its residents from ICE's abuses.

My top priority policies of WAs agenda are:

• Provide free legal services for city residents whose constitutional rights are violated by federal immigration enforcement.

• Require judicial warrants before city facilities, records, databases, or other city resources are accessed for federal immigration enforcement, except where access or disclosure is otherwise legally required.

• Pass a resolution calling for the abolition of ICE.

• Hold a public hearing on ICE and its impact on Salt Lake City residents.

• Provide public education and partner with immigrant-rights organizations to inform residents of their legal protections.

• Require city departments to publicly report their interactions with ICE and other federal immigration authorities, including requests for information, records, access, or assistance.
